BigIP Access Policy Manager vs. Azure B2C
Azure B2C is Identity as a Service - I wrote about Azure B2C in detail here. The idea of using a single cloud service for all authentication related workflows, for EVERY SINGLE app in your portfolio, makes Azure B2C the greatest thing since sliced bread....
What are some options to Azure B2C? Is there anything that comes close?
If you use F5's BigIP as your external load balancer, you may be able to achieve SOME of what Azure B2C offers - especially the basic authentication piece (not so much the password reset or the sign up pieces).
From their documentation -
F5 BIG-IP Access Policy Manager (APM) is a secure, flexible, high-performance access
management proxy solution that delivers unified global access control for your users, devices,
applications, and application programming interfaces (APIs). Through its single management
interface, BIG-IP APM converges and consolidates remote, mobile, network, virtual desktops,
and web access. With BIG-IP APM, you can create and enforce simple, dynamic, intelligent
access policies.
Summary
This is just a short post to illustrate that as along as you are thinking only about the basic authentication (to apps) use case, APM in BigIP may be a viable solution. Keep in mind that applications need far more than basic authentication - as users need to be managed via sign up policies, password reset policies etc. APM will not meet those additional use cases.
